The largest misconception is that PageRank™ is the ranking of your website on Google. IT IS NOT! PageRank™ is a trademark of Google regarding their use of a patented Stanford University algorithm used to provide a weighted link analysis of a given website. PageRank™ is named after Larry Page, thus the name. This was a tool used by Google for many years to aid them in listing appropriate websites when you searched for something. Google had removed this from their webmaster tools in 2009 and no longer uses this to determine what websites best match users search criteria.
